The Investigative Committee reports that the preliminary investigation into the smuggling of 956 thousand euros has been completed.
"During the preliminary investigation initiated by the Main Department for the Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, factual data were obtained indicating that on May 30, 2026, a citizen of the Netherlands, S.N., of Armenian descent, and a citizen of Armenia, M.N., acting in a group by prior agreement, acquired particularly large sums of money in Germany and, smuggling it into Armenia without presenting a customs declaration regarding the presence of cash, illegally transported 956 thousand 400 euros, equivalent to 397 million 156 thousand 944 AMD, packed in named envelopes.
Subsequently, during a customs inspection by the employees of the State Revenue Committee, cash in the total amount of 956 thousand 400 euros was discovered hidden in various parts of clothing in their luggage, which was confiscated.
During the investigation, public criminal prosecution was initiated against S.N. and M.N. by the decision of the supervising prosecutor under parts 2 and 4 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code (smuggling of cash and/or payment instruments by a group of persons by prior agreement).
One of them has been arrested, while the other has been subjected to administrative supervision as a preventive measure.
The cash has been recognized as physical evidence to ensure the subsequent confiscation of the subject of smuggling.
The criminal case has been sent to the supervising prosecutor with an accusatory conclusion for approval and with a motion to send it to court for consideration," the statement said.
Notice: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code by a court decision that has entered into legal force.
