Marine Le Pen, a French presidential candidate and head of the parliamentary group of the National Rally party, said France cannot afford to continue funding Ukraine under the current financial situation. She made the remarks on LCI television.
Le Pen argued that it is inconsistent to say there is not a single euro available for pension indexation while, at the same time, sending billions of euros through the European Union to support Ukraine.
She also said France’s historic role is to help create the conditions for negotiations leading to peace, rather than to keep expanding financial assistance.
Earlier, National Rally vice president Louis Aliot said that if the party comes to power, it would “turn off the tap” and halt funding for Kyiv.
