Converse Bank and Bank Pekao discuss financing opportunities for Armenia-Poland trade

At a meeting in Armenia, the sides discussed banking cooperation and the potential of bilateral trade.

Converse Bank, together with Poland’s Bank Pekao, held a meeting with members of a Polish delegation visiting Armenia on an official trip. The delegation included representatives of Poland’s public sector as well as business and financial circles.

The discussions focused on deepening bilateral economic cooperation, financing for businesses and the development of international trade. Particular attention was given to the untapped potential of Armenia-Poland trade and to prospects for direct cooperation between banks in the two countries.

Converse Bank Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Management Board Hrant Hakobyan said financial institutions have an important role to play in expanding Armenia-Poland economic ties. Strong partnerships between banks, he said, can also help build long-term links between the business communities of the two countries.

Banking links seen as a driver of economic ties

Areg Sargsyan, Converse Bank’s Chief Economist and Head of Research and Analytics, presented Armenia’s macroeconomic trends, structural changes in foreign trade and opportunities to diversify export markets.

He said Armenia’s exports to the European Union rose 70.7% in the first seven months of 2026. At the same time, he noted that the full potential of Armenia-Poland economic relations has yet to be realized, and that Converse Bank could help narrow the gap between Poland’s current position and its actual potential together with partner banks in Poland.

Armenia gaining appeal for Polish business

Lukasz Januszewski, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Bank Pekao, thanked Converse Bank for the warm reception and described the meeting as important and productive. He said Polish business representatives were able to learn not only about trade finance tools available in Armenia’s banking system and Converse Bank’s offerings, but also about broader economic developments and possible areas for bilateral cooperation.

Potential areas of cooperation

Converse Bank and Bank Pekao are both members of BACEE, the Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe. Cooperation between the banks could include correspondent banking ties, trade finance instruments, foreign exchange operations and support for business contacts.

Nelli Kocharyan, Head of Financial Institutions and International Banking Relations at Converse Bank, said the bank is steadily expanding its international partner network. In her words, cooperation with Bank Pekao is a logical continuation of that effort and could help create the financial infrastructure needed to support Armenia-Poland trade, allowing Armenian companies to enter the Polish and wider European markets with greater confidence, while giving Polish companies a reliable partner in Armenia.

Converse Bank is supervised by the Central Bank of Armenia.
