Cybersecurity seen as key condition for Armenia’s digital transformation

The deputy minister discussed sector priorities with representatives of GIZ and the EU.

Armenia’s Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry and Artificial Intelligence Tatev Aslanyan on September 11 received a delegation led by Dr. Sonja Kurz, head of the GIZ office in Armenia, along with Ivan Zusner, programme officer at the EU representation, the ministry’s press service said.

During the meeting, the sides reviewed the goals, main workstreams and current activities of the “Cooperation for the Enhancement of Cybersecurity” programme. The initiative is being implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Foreign Office and is co-financed by the European Union.

Participants discussed how to align the programme with the priorities of the Armenian government and the ministry, as well as the sector’s current challenges and tasks. They also looked at prospects for further cooperation.

In discussing the development of Armenia’s cybersecurity system, the parties stressed the importance of strengthening institutional capacity, improving sector policy and regulations, expanding technical capabilities, and deepening international cooperation.

They said building sustainable cybersecurity capacity is a key prerequisite for Armenia’s digital transformation, for strengthening trust in digital services, and for closer integration into the European digital and cybersecurity environment.

At the end of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination between the ministry, European partners and GIZ so that programme support better matches Armenia’s current needs and priorities.
