Catholicos Garegin II emphasized that the autonomy of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) has always been one of the guarantees of state stability. He made this statement in Etchmiadzin during the first court session, which did not take place due to the judge's self-recusal.
The Catholicos noted that the authorities are attempting to harm the reputation of the AAC, limit its autonomy, and use the Church for their own purposes. "We must unite our efforts to defend our rights, which are guaranteed by both the Constitution of Armenia and the principles of international law," he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to all those who support the Holy See of Etchmiadzin and its mission.
It is worth noting that on August 7, the first session regarding the case of Catholicos Garegin II and six bishops was scheduled, but the judge announced his self-recusal.
