Investigation Launched Against 11 Dairy Producers

Competition Commission initiates proceedings against dairy producers

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has launched proceedings against 11 dairy-producing companies. The reason is violations found in several products: according to the commission, the mass fraction of milk fat in these products was significantly lower than the established norm.

Which companies and specific products are involved has not yet been detailed by the commission.

This comes against the backdrop of Russian restrictions on Armenian dairy products. In July, after inspections in Armenia, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) banned the entry of dairy products from several Armenian companies into the Russian market, claiming that violations were found during production. The Armenian Food Safety Inspection Body refuted some of the Russian claims, stating that no evidence supporting these violations was found during the inspections.

The issue of Russian restrictions was also discussed yesterday by Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan and Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut at a meeting in Almaty. According to the Armenian side, they discussed the removal of restrictions on the supply of Armenian products to Russia and transit through that country. They also agreed to enhance cooperation between Armenia's Food Safety Inspection Body and Rosselkhoznadzor.
