The Armenian government plans to improve the drinking water supply system by establishing a long-term new contract with an organization that has significant international experience and high reputation, as stated in the new government program that will soon be sent to parliament.
Currently, the operator of Armenia's water supply network is the French company Veolia, with which the Armenian government's contract expires in 2031.
According to the upcoming five-year plan, the government intends to improve water quality and the average duration of water supply; to build the "Solak-Arzakan-Yerevan" water supply system, and to explore and attract new water sources.
"Capital repairs will be made to the most emergency drinking water supply systems and distribution networks, and other water supply systems will be built and reconstructed, resulting in a reduction of water losses by at least 50 million cubic meters by 2025," the executive's plan states.
According to it, differentiated tariffs for water usage will be introduced, including measures to limit the use of drinking water for technical purposes and the application of alternative solutions for drinking water in economic and other activities.
However, the plan does not specify a concrete timeline for the implementation of these changes.
