Israel and Greece have signed a large-scale defense agreement worth approximately €3 billion, called the 'Achilles Shield'. The agreement stipulates that the Israeli side will build advanced air defense and missile defense systems for Athens' needs.
The document was signed by the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Major General (Res.) Amir Baram, and his Greek counterpart Ioannis Bouras.
“According to the agreement, Israel will construct a complex multi-layered air defense system in Greece, which will be entirely composed of Israeli-made systems and will utilize the extensive combat experience accumulated by Israeli defense structures during wartime,” the statement said.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense noted that this is the largest deal in the history of Israeli-Greek military cooperation.
“Israel and Greece have common strategic interests and face common regional challenges,” commented Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on the signing of the agreement.
