During the periods between port blockades, Iran managed to export at least 57 million barrels of oil. This was reported by Bloomberg.
US President Donald Trump announced the day before that the US would again begin blocking the entry and exit of ships from Iranian ports. According to him, the US intends to take on the role of a guarantor of navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz and charge a fee of 20% of the value of the cargoes transported by the ships to compensate for security-related expenses.
This decision was made less than a month after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, which restored shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
During this period, Iran was able to export at least 2.2 million barrels of oil per day, which is quite a high figure by recent standards. Bloomberg notes that the actual supply volumes could be even larger, as the country may hide data on shipments.
The mentioned volumes include both supplies from Iranian export terminals and batches of oil stored in blocked tankers at one of the Iranian ports in the Gulf of Oman.
The return of Iranian oil to the global market contributed to a sharp decline in oil prices during the first two weeks following the signing of the preliminary agreement between Iran and the US. However, yesterday, following Trump's announcement about the resumption of the maritime blockade against Iran, oil prices rose by more than 9%.
