While American sanctions were temporarily relaxed, Iran managed to export huge volumes of oil. This concerns approximately 70 million barrels, valued at $5-6 billion. This data was published by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing calculations from the non-governmental organization United Against Nuclear Iran.
According to the organization, around 20 Iranian tankers headed to Asia from mid-June to mid-July.
The reason for such activity was a document published on June 22. The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a general license allowing the export, supply, and sale of Iranian oil and its refined products.
However, this relaxation did not last long. On July 7, the U.S. Treasury Department revoked the license. The agency prohibited new transactions in Iran's oil sector, although previously their implementation was allowed until August 21.
