Nikol Pashinyan, who traveled to Iran to attend the official farewell ceremony for the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to a statement from the Armenian government, Pashinyan once again expressed his condolences over the death of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, emphasizing that Armenia shares the grief of the Iranian people.
President Pezeshkian thanked him and noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran highly appreciates the position of the Armenian government and the humanitarian assistance provided in a difficult situation.
“The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, congratulated Nikol Pashinyan on his victory in the parliamentary elections and expressed confidence that bilateral relations will continue to develop and strengthen consistently.
The parties exchanged views on issues of regional significance, emphasizing the need for consistent steps aimed at strengthening peace, stability, and regional cooperation.
It is noteworthy that the key emphases contained in the Iranian side's message and in President Pezeshkian's speech were absent from the Armenian government's message.
The President of Iran emphasized that relations between Tehran and Yerevan should be free from external interference and determined solely by the independent will of the two countries.
He also noted that the presence of forces outside the region often complicates regional problems.
Reaffirming Iran's foreign policy principles, Pezeshkian stressed respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.
All this indicates that the meeting between Pashinyan and Pezeshkian had a much broader political context than the current meeting.
