Elon Musk stated on CNBC that artificial intelligence is capable of radically accelerating global economic growth. The billionaire noted that the next major leap in productivity will be driven by robotics, which he described as a "simply incredible change."
"I believe that artificial intelligence will likely increase the global economy by 20-30%. This is my rough estimate. In other words, we are talking about an amount in the range of $20-30 trillion annually. And artificial intelligence will be able to perform everything related to the digital domain. Everything that does not require the physical movement of atoms by hand," the businessman said.
Earlier, the head of Tesla and SpaceX had testified in court regarding a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. At that time, he warned that the technology contains both enormous opportunities and existential risks.
"It could kill us all. We don’t want everything to end up like in 'The Terminator,'" he said.
At the end of August, Musk also responded to a post by Naval Ravikant, who wrote that "you cannot create God and keep him in chains." In response, the businessman expressed hope that artificial intelligence would be "kind to us."
Back in April 2024, Musk predicted that by the end of 2025, an artificial intelligence would emerge that would surpass any individual human in capability. He estimated that within the next five years, the technology could exceed all humans combined. Previously, the businessman expected the emergence of general artificial intelligence (AGI) by 2029.
