IDBank warns of a new type of fraud related to hotel bookings. During the holiday season, scammers become more active, using hacked hotel data to send fake messages to customers.
The fraud scheme includes:
- Hacking the hotel system: Criminals gain access to customer data through the booking management system.
- Convincing letter: Scammers send messages posing as the hotel, claiming there was a problem with payment details.
- Fake payment page: The link leads to a counterfeit site that looks like Booking.com.
- Theft of money: By entering their card details, customers fall victim to the scammers.
IDBank recommends not clicking on links in messages, checking the website address, and not re-entering card details for verification.
