Armenia, August 7 - IDBank warns that during the vacation season, fraud is becoming increasingly common, particularly in hotel booking. One of the most dangerous schemes in recent years targets hotel booking customers.
The mechanics of the fraud involve hacking the hotel system, allowing criminals to access real customer data such as name, chosen hotel, and dates of stay. With this information, the criminals send convincing messages to the client, supposedly from the hotel, stating that there was an error in verifying the bank card and that the booking may be canceled unless the client urgently confirms their payment details.
Such messages often contain fake payment pages that are visually indistinguishable from the real ones. When the victim enters their bank card details, this information ends up in the hands of the fraudsters.
IDBank recommends:
- Do not click on links in booking emails and messages.
- Open Booking.com only through the official app or by manually typing the address in the browser.
- Check the website address.
- If in doubt, call the hotel directly.
