Hungary's Prime Minister Peter Magyar has announced that the country expects its only nuclear power plant, Paks, to resume operations as the water levels of the Danube rise due to recent rains.
This summer, Hungary and Romania faced power supply issues as heatwaves and a lack of rainfall led to the lowest water levels in the Danube in nearly 90 years.
Hungary was forced to shut down the Paks Nuclear Power Plant for the first time in 44 years.
However, water levels have started to rise recently, and the Prime Minister stated, "The Danube's water level is 19 centimeters above last week's low point." He also mentioned that "rain is expected in the Austrian catchment areas next week."
