AMD 600 million to be allocated for Hrazdan Stadium renovation

The funding is part of preparations for the 2027 Francophonie Games.

The Armenian government has decided to allocate AMD 600 million for the renovation of Hrazdan Stadium. According to the official justification, the work is needed to provide the required infrastructure as Armenia prepares to host the 2027 Francophonie Games.

The funding will go toward reconstructing or repairing the running track and related infrastructure needed to stage athletics and para-athletics events in line with international standards. It also covers the athletics track at the training stadium.

The procurement has been classified as urgent, and the authorities plan to use an urgent single-source procedure. Factor.am reports that the justification identifies GTS Construction LLC as the intended contractor. According to government information, the company is currently building the Arthur Abraham Sports Complex.

At the same time, the AMD 600 million package does not include the running track’s rubber surface or the base layers needed for its installation, including asphalt or concrete surfacing. Those works will be carried out by another organization under a separate procurement procedure.

The government said the choice of the final track surface is technologically linked to the selection of the appropriate manufacturer, supplier and specialized organization. The justification adds that foreign manufacturers, suppliers and specialized firms may also need to be involved.

The document also states that state budget money will be invested in upgrading privately owned infrastructure. In return, Hrazdan Stadium is expected to be used for state programs for around the next 20 years.

The Francophonie Games are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 1, 2027.
