The Hormuz Strait will only open if the US accepts Iran's conditions. This was stated by Mohsen Rezaei, the newly appointed head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), during a meeting in Tehran with Chinese Ambassador Zong Piyu, as reported by Press TV.
"As long as the US does not change its behavior and accept Iran's conditions, the Hormuz Strait will not reopen," Rezaei said during the meeting.
He reiterated that if Iran and Oman reach an agreement on transit routes by water, that agreement will have no impact on Iran's decision to reopen the strait.
In June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that allowed Iran to manage the strait and gradually restore transit to normal levels in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions and blockade against the country.
However, Iran reinstated restrictions in Hormuz after the US violated the terms of the memorandum, attempting to undermine Iran's management of the strait.
During the meeting with the Chinese ambassador in Iran, Rezaei praised China's decision to oppose the anti-Iranian and illegal resolution proposed in the UN Security Council during the US-Israeli war against Iran in March.
"We believe that Iran, in addition to its strength, is endowed with wisdom and is capable of managing the situation," he said.
The Iranian security chief also published a message regarding the Hormuz Strait issue on X.
"Iran's message is clear: the Hormuz Strait will not reopen until the US stops the war and blockade, releases Iran's frozen assets, and agrees to a regional ceasefire, including in Lebanon and Gaza," Rezaei said, adding that until all conditions are met, the strait will remain closed.
