In June, India's coal power generation surged by 14% year-on-year to 120.20 billion kWh, driven by hotter and drier weather that significantly increased demand.
This marks the highest level of coal-fired generation since November 2023, while wind and solar also rose to 19% of India's electricity mix.
Analysts expect coal power generation to remain strong, despite India adding new wind and solar capacity, as the drier weather has led to a drop in hydropower generation.
