YEREVAN, August 25. /ARKA/. A competition has been announced for the design works for the construction of the Gyumri-Kars railway, reported the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan.
“In accordance with the law, if there is a company that wins the competition, we will proceed to the design phase as soon as possible, and then directly to construction,” he said.
The minister noted that the competition is international, as Armenian design companies and builders do not have experience in carrying out works of this scale.
According to Azatutyun, preliminary estimates indicate that $15 million is required for the construction of the 21-kilometer Armenian section of the Gyumri-Kars railway.
On April 28 in Kars, within the framework of agreements reached during the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, a meeting of the joint working group of the two countries took place to restore and launch the Gyumri-Kars railway line. The parties emphasized the importance of the prompt launch of the Gyumri-Kars railway communication in the context of expanding transport communications in the region.
