In Armenia, the number of virtual point-of-sale terminals (vPOS) reached 6,258 by July 2026, with 50.6% or 3,169 of them used in retail, food, and service points. The annual increase in the number of vPOS was 17.8% or 945 units, while ordinary POS terminals increased by 16.1% or 14,349 units. This growth is attributed to the rise of cashless payments, which became mandatory following the introduction of legislative restrictions on cash transactions in July 2022.
By July 2026, there were 60,049 POS terminals in wholesale and retail trade (supermarkets, shops, markets), including 2,298 vPOS. In total, Armenia has 109,493 POS terminals, of which 103,235 are ordinary.
As of the first half of 2026, there are already 5.5 million cards in Armenia, and the volume of plastic transactions exceeded 3.8 trillion drams ($10.4 billion), of which 60.7% or over 2.3 trillion drams ($6.3 billion) are cashless transactions.
