The new biometric passport will cost Armenian citizens 28,650 drams, up from the previous 25,000 drams. This was announced during a press conference on August 14 by Nelly Davtyan, the acting head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia. She noted that the validity period of the new passports is 10 years, while the new ID cards will be valid for 5 years. The cost of the latter will be 5,950 drams.
According to the new regulations, ID cards can be obtained by children under 16 at the request of their parents, and after reaching 16 years of age, obtaining the new passport will become mandatory. Davtyan also mentioned that having an ID card is a condition for obtaining a passport.
According to the acting head of the Migration Service, with the launch of the new biometric system planned for this fall, Armenian citizens can apply for a passport replacement regardless of the validity of their current document.
The same procedure applies to ID cards. Davtyan also reported that there will be 14 offices of the private company that won the tender for launching the biometric system, which will handle the document processing.
