Armenia plans to implement an IMEI number registration system aimed at ensuring the legal circulation of mobile phones. This was reported by the Government.
- reducing the circulation of illegally imported mobile phones,
- ensuring equal and fair competitive conditions for legal importers,
- protecting consumers from fake or altered phones with modified IMEI numbers,
- establishing a unified database for the registration of mobile phones.
“It is important to emphasize that the initiative is not related to the collection or control of citizens' personal data. The created database will only store the 15-digit IMEI number of the device without any personal data.
During public discussions regarding the initiative, various questions and concerns were raised. Below we present the most frequently voiced opinions and reasoned clarifications,” the message states.
