Prospects for Green Hydrogen Production Development in Armenia

Prime Minister Pashinyan discussed issues of hydrogen production

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, a meeting was held to discuss the prospects for green hydrogen production development in the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by the government’s press service.

“It was reminded that within the framework of the fifth meeting of the Investment Committee, it was decided to create a working group on hydrogen issues, which should work on the development of the green hydrogen sector, identifying its advantages, production methods, and technologies. It was emphasized that the purpose of this meeting is to discuss the proposals developed by the working group and consulting companies based on the studies conducted on the development of green hydrogen production in Armenia.

Next, the legal framework for the development of green hydrogen, its areas of application were presented, and long-term strategic solutions aimed at decarbonizing the energy system, preventing emissions, and meeting green taxonomy requirements were discussed. Details of program proposals for green hydrogen production were presented, specifically the results of techno-economic studies on the production and integration of green hydrogen by consulting companies “BDO ADVISORY” and “CIVITTA.”

Short-term, medium-term, and long-term scenarios for the development of green hydrogen production were also discussed. A discussion was held regarding the presented studies and proposals, with observations made on the methods of green hydrogen production in the context of energy transformation.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the studies provided by the working group and consulting companies, highlighting the necessity of implementing a pilot project for green hydrogen production in collaboration with the scientific community and integrating international experience. The head of state instructed to present a report in the near future on the work done towards the implementation of the pilot project,” the statement said.
