YEREVAN, August 11. /ARKA/. In Armenia, 5,163.7 million kWh of electricity was generated in January-June 2026, which is 10% more than in the same period of 2025. This is according to data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia.
The largest share of electricity generation comes from thermal power plants (TPPs) — 2,031.9 million kWh, or 39.3% of the total volume. TPP generation increased by 43.5% compared to January-June 2025.
Hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) are in second place, generating 1,346.0 million kWh, or 26.1% of the total volume, which is 3.4% higher than the same period last year.
The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant produced 939.5 million kWh, or 18.2% of the total volume. Compared to January-June 2025, electricity production at the NPP decreased by 23.8%.
Solar power plants generated 845.7 million kWh, or 16.4% of the total volume, which is 13.8% more than the figure for January-June 2025.
Wind power plants produced 0.6 million kWh of electricity, increasing their output by 44.8%; their share in the overall structure was about 0.01%.
The electricity production figures also include the volumes produced by autonomous energy producers in terms of electricity transfers. Specifically, the total volume supplied by autonomous energy producers to the Closed Joint-Stock Company “Electric Networks of Armenia” was 309.7 million kWh, while the volume produced and consumed on-site by them, according to estimated calculations, was 196.5 million kWh.
Generation Growth Supports Economic Activity
The 10% growth in electricity generation in the first half of the year creates an additional resource base for industry, construction, services, and other sectors of the economy. Stable generation growth is especially important against the backdrop of a growing manufacturing sector, as the availability of electricity directly affects the ability of enterprises to expand production.
The main source of growth has been thermal power plants, which increased output by 43.5% and accounted for 39.3% of total generation. At the same time, solar energy continues to grow by 13.8%, gradually changing the energy balance structure and expanding the diversification of electricity sources.
Meanwhile, the 23.8% decrease in production at the Armenian NPP means that the overall growth in the first half of the year was primarily supported by other generation sources. For the economy, this makes the stability of energy supply and the balance of electricity production structure particularly important, as the energy sector remains one of the basic conditions for stable production and economic activity.
