Starting September 1, 2026, access to artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the general and higher education system of Armenia will significantly expand. This was announced on August 28 at a press conference in Yerevan by the head of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MОНКС), Zhanna Andreasyan, while presenting the ministry's programs and priorities for the 2026-2027 academic year.
In this regard, Andreasyan stated that in cooperation with the American company OpenAI and the Firebird Foundation, it is planned to provide free subscriptions to 50,000 users - students and teachers.
“Today, the most well-known tool is ChatGPT, but there are also ChatGPT Edu, aimed at utilizing the capabilities of artificial intelligence in educational institutions. With its help, a director can analyze data on student performance, attendance, and grades, identify problem areas, and determine directions that need additional attention,” the minister explained.
Additionally, according to her, the implementation of this tool will allow teachers to eliminate mechanical work and devote more time to the creative aspects of their activities.
“Moreover, a large-scale retraining program is planned. As AI becomes part of our daily lives, we are confident that only informed decisions will allow us to use this toolkit beneficially, rather than the opposite,” Andreasyan concluded.
