Starting January 1, 2027, the sale of plastic bags and single-use plastic products will be banned in Armenia. This is reported by the market oversight authority.
According to the new law, the sale and use of plastic bags and single-use plastic or polystyrene products, including containers, plates, cups, cup lids, spoons, forks, knives, and drinking and stirring sticks, will be prohibited in retail outlets, catering establishments, trading places, mobile trading points, fairs, and exhibitions.
The ban will also apply to plastic bags and pouches thicker than 50 microns. The law provides exceptions for plastic bags intended for weighing, garbage bags made from recycled materials, and plastic containers with lids intended for weighing.
According to the Code of Administrative Offenses, violators will face administrative penalties. “We strongly urge you to take the necessary measures in advance to bring your activities in line with the legislative requirements that will come into effect on January 1, 2027,” the market oversight authority stated in its message to business entities.
