The Minister of Economy of Armenia, Gevorg Papoyan, met on August 27 with Omar Mohammad Hamdan Abdulla Alshamsi, the founder and CEO of Watermelon Ecosystem. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister Arman Khojoyan. Omar Alshamsi presented the activities of the Watermelon Ecosystem platform, established in the UAE, which connects restaurants, food suppliers, producers, and farmers, offering solutions for digital purchasing and supply chain management.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for cooperation and the implementation of investment programs, expanding export opportunities for Armenian products, as well as establishing connections between Armenian producers and buyers and distributors in the UAE and other international markets.
Gevorg Papoyan highlighted the investments made in Armenia's agricultural sector in recent years and the production capacities that meet international standards, emphasizing the importance of expanding access to international markets for small and medium-sized producers.
At the end of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed, which will create opportunities for organizing long-term and sustainable exports of fresh fruits and vegetables from Armenia. The export of fresh fruits and vegetables is expected to start next month, initially at a volume of up to 40 tons per week.
