The Armenian authorities plan to support peach and fig harvesters. A decision to amend the existing support program was made at a government meeting on August 20. Minister of Economy Gevork Papoyan noted that previously the support was intended for all fruit and vegetable exporters, but the current decision establishes a compensation procedure for harvesting companies purchasing peaches and figs.
The country has produced a good harvest of figs and peaches. To address the marketing issues, compensation for the export of finished products is planned. However, there are problems with the sale of figs grown in the Syunik region due to short storage times and long logistical export routes.
On the other hand, there is a certain demand for figs and peaches for the production of dried fruits, jams, juices, and peach puree, but the volumes of the harvest purchased for processing are small due to high prices.
According to dried fruit producers, Turkish, Uzbek, and Tajik dried fruits are sold in the EU market at low prices - around $2.
To increase the volumes of fig and peach purchases and ensure the competitiveness of the products obtained from their processing, it is necessary to provide compensation for the harvest purchased for processing.
The project provides for compensation payments within the framework of the event, which will operate from August 18 to September 1. In particular, the state will pay a compensation of 125 drams for each kilogram of figs purchased in the Syunik region for processing up to 400 tons. It is also planned to allocate 125 drams for each kilogram of peaches purchased in the territory of the Republic of Armenia for processing.
Control over the purchasing process at the purchasing points of economic entities that purchase peaches and figs for processing within the framework of the event will be carried out by the regional governors' staff. To provide compensation for the products purchased for processing, it is established that along with the application, copies of documents on the quantity and cost of the purchased products for processing must be submitted in accordance with form No. 3 and a document confirming the purchase.
In this regard, the Prime Minister of Armenia pointed out the prospects for exporting finished products. He urged economic entities to expand their markets effectively organizing their production cycles.
