Armenian Banks' Investments in Securities Reached 1.92 Trillion Drams in Q2

Investments by Armenian banks in securities decreased by 9.5%

YEREVAN, August 25. /ARKA/ The total volume of investments by commercial banks in Armenia in securities at the end of June 2026 amounted to 1,922,826,829 thousand drams. This is evidenced by the data of the bulletin of the agency "ARKA" "Indicators of the Activities of Banks of Armenia. II Quarter 2026", compiled based on the reports of Armenian banks published in accordance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS).

Compared to the end of March, the volume of investments decreased by 280.1 billion drams, or 12.7%. Since the beginning of the year, the figure has decreased by 202.5 billion drams, or 9.5%.

The share of investments in securities in the total assets of the banking system at the end of June was 13.9%, and in income-generating assets - 12.99%.

Portfolio structure by types of securities

The majority of bank investments were in government securities - 1.74 trillion drams, or 90.67% of the total portfolio.

The volume of investments in non-government securities amounted to 181.93 billion drams, with a share of 9.46%. Reserves for possible depreciation reached 2.55 billion drams, or 0.13% of the portfolio.

Taking into account the formed reserves, the total securities portfolio of banks amounted to 1,922,758,908 thousand drams.

Portfolio structure by investment objectives

The majority of the portfolio consisted of securities held to maturity. The volume of such investments amounted to 1.26 trillion drams, or 65.53% of the total figure.

The volume of securities intended for sale amounted to 624.15 billion drams, or 32.46% of the portfolio.

Bank investments in securities for commercial purposes amounted to 38.72 billion drams, or 2.01% of the total portfolio.

The total volume of banks' investments in government bonds amounted to 1.344 trillion drams - about 69.9% of the entire securities portfolio.

Leaders of the banking system

The largest securities portfolio at the end of June was recorded at Ardshinbank - 306.45 billion drams. The bank accounted for 15.94% of the total investments of the banking system in securities.

In second place was AMIO Bank with a portfolio of 259.92 billion drams and a share of 13.52%. Over the quarter, the figure decreased by 4.6%, while since the beginning of the year it increased by 7.2%.

Also in the top three was Ameriabank - 210.07 billion drams, or 10.92% of the total portfolio. Over the quarter, its investments decreased by 0.84%, and since the beginning of the year - by 17.26%.

Following them were Inecobank with a portfolio of 175.1 billion drams and Armswissbank - 172.08 billion drams.

Bank dynamics

The highest growth in investments in securities in the second quarter was demonstrated by Fast Bank - up 70.53%, to 38.76 billion drams.

Armeconombank's investments increased by 5.51%, to 103.16 billion drams, UniBank's by 5.39%, to 26.43 billion drams, and IDBank's by about 1%, to 54.45 billion drams.

The most significant quarterly reduction after Ardshinbank was noted at Converse Bank - down 21.36% to 101.1 billion drams, Ararat Bank - down 13.77% to 57.6 billion drams, VTB Bank (Armenia) - down 11.81% to 22.7 billion drams, and Evocabank - down 10.28% to 93.3 billion drams.

As of June 30, 2026, there were 17 commercial banks operating in Armenia. The average volume of investments per bank in securities was 113.1 billion drams.
