Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan attended the seventh meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union’s Council for Agro-Industrial Policy in Almaty on August 13, presenting the current state and future development priorities of Armenia’s agro-industrial complex.
He highlighted the intensification of agriculture, increased productivity, the introduction of modern technologies and the development of digital agriculture.
The meeting also addressed the expansion of processing capacity and the development of “smart” farms, drip irrigation and satellite land-monitoring systems.
Participants also discussed a number of other issues related to the agro-industrial sector.
Russia has imposed restrictions on imports of Armenian products. In particular, imports from Armenia of Jermuk mineral water, flowers and certain alcoholic beverages have been banned. Restrictions have also been imposed on several agricultural products, including tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries. Since June 2, Russia has restricted imports from Armenia of cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, grapes and other stone fruits, as well as their transit to other EAEU countries. Since June 3, Russia has also restricted imports of eggplants, potatoes and dried fruits originating from and exported by Armenia.
