Armenian authorities have stated that they will not restrict entry for Russian nationals wishing to travel to Armenia in the event of a new mobilization in Russia. Alen Simonyan, secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, conveyed this information to Dozhd.
Simonyan was asked whether Armenia was prepared to receive Russians seeking to avoid being sent to the front.
“No one at the border is going to ask anyone why they came here. As you know, people from Russia can come to Armenia without an international passport. I can tell Russians only one thing: ‘Welcome to Armenia.’ Here, we love and respect everyone. They will find here everything they were looking for when they came to Armenia. And they will return to Russia whenever it is convenient for them. Armenia will not create any obstacles, and if necessary, it will help,” Simonyan said.
In recent months, various sources have published reports about the possibility of a new mobilization in Russia. The Kremlin, however, on August 25 described reports concerning a new mobilization as “information fakes.” At the same time, before the announcement of partial mobilization in September 2022, Russian authorities also denied reports that preparations for it were underway.
