YEREVAN, August 27. /ARKA/. Armenia is considering the possibility of importing electricity from various countries, including Azerbaijan, if necessary, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated.
"There are different energy supply regimes. Sometimes countries have a surplus, sometimes there is demand. Considering Armenia's investments in artificial intelligence, we need to understand if there is a possibility to import electricity from anywhere, including Azerbaijan, if necessary," Pashinyan noted at a briefing on Thursday.
According to the Prime Minister, Armenia is discussing similar issues with Georgia, Iran, and Turkey.
"Moreover, there is a project funded by the EU, and a converter station is being built at the border with Georgia to facilitate the export and import of electricity," Pashinyan said.
On August 25, a working meeting took place in Lachin between representatives of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia and the Armenian Electricity System Operator with representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the Azerenerji company. During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibilities of importing and exporting electricity between the two countries, as well as possible options for connecting the energy infrastructures of the two states at the state border.
