YEREVAN, September 3. /ARKA/. The Armenian government approved a proposal on Thursday to sign a protocol with Iran for the exchange of preliminary information on goods and vehicles as part of the 'Simplified Customs Corridor' mechanism.
According to the project, prior to the import of goods and vehicles into the territory of another country, the parties will electronically exchange information about the goods, vehicles, and participants in foreign economic activity, including carriers and their employees.
The mechanism is planned to be applied to participants in foreign economic activity with a low risk of violating customs legislation.
The goal of creating the corridor is to establish more favorable conditions for honest participants in foreign economic activity, speed up customs control and clearance, and reduce the number of required documents and the volume of customs control through the application of a risk management system.
As noted in the project's justification, the implementation of the mechanism will reduce the time for the release of goods and waiting at the border. For the full launch of the 'Simplified Customs Corridor', it is necessary to complete the modernization of the 'Meger' border checkpoint, including the construction of necessary facilities, infrastructure development, and installation of technical equipment.
