Days after the parliamentary elections, armed officials from the State Revenue Committee entered companies owned by the family of Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan, and conducted inspections.
“Just a week after the elections, armed tax officials, from I don’t know which division of the SRC, entered all the companies in which any member of our family has a stake,” said Robert Kocharyan's son, Levon Kocharyan.
The state agency has not issued any statements. Levon Kocharyan, a member of the opposition 'Armenia' faction, shared this with reporters today. His wife, singer Siru's silver jewelry stores were also inspected.
“They can’t find anything because there are truly no violations,” he stated.
What was the SRC looking for in the Kocharyan businesses? The media did not respond to our inquiry and advised to submit a written request.
The Investigative Committee stated that there is no ongoing investigation. Thus, no criminal case has been initiated at this time following the inspections.
Why were the businesses belonging to the family of the opposition bloc leader inspected in an extraordinary manner with armed personnel?
Levon Kocharyan believes these actions following the elections are intended to intimidate.
“We don’t present this in a melodramatic way, but there is certainly huge pressure. Being in opposition today, especially being an opposition MP, is not a privilege, it’s not a pleasure.”
After the elections, a criminal case was also initiated against Robert Kocharyan for abuse of power and money laundering.
