According to the Turkish portal HaberDenizde.com, the owners of the cargo ship «Reyhan Sarı» and its 15 crew members are preparing to file a complaint against Ukraine with the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
In their complaint, the plaintiffs emphasize that civilian commercial vessels are protected under international law and cannot be considered military targets. They argue that the «Reyhan Sarı» and its docking location were deliberately targeted, indicating an intent to harm civilians.
The attack was carried out with explosives containing armor-piercing cluster munitions. The plaintiffs believe that these circumstances, taken together, could constitute a crime against humanity.
On July 23, the Turkish cargo ship «Reyhan Sarı», which was transporting coal from the Russian port of Taman to Turkey, was attacked by a drone in the Black Sea. One crew member was killed, and three others were injured. On August 7, drones attacked the Turkish cargo ship again, but there were no casualties.
On August 5, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Russia and Ukraine to take immediate concrete steps to ensure navigation safety in the Black Sea.
