Turkey supports efforts to achieve lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated.
According to him, developments in the South Caucasus directly affect Turkey’s security architecture.
Fidan also emphasized that the trilateral defense agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan is not directed against Iran or any other country.
“There is no common threat. No country will become a target unless it poses a threat to the countries that signed the agreement,” the minister said.
Fidan noted that, from a technical perspective, the agreement is similar to Article 5 of NATO’s North Atlantic Treaty. He expressed confidence that Egypt could join the cooperation at the next stage and did not rule out the possibility of concluding similar agreements with South Caucasus countries.
On August 8, 2025, a joint declaration on the results of the Washington meeting was signed at the White House during a trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan” in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S.
