The FAO has released data on global food prices for July 2026:
Overall, the FAO food price index in July stood at 131.1 points, increasing by 0.6% from June and by 1% compared to July 2025.
The most notable changes are as follows:
- Wheat — +5.8%
Global wheat prices have surged sharply due to ongoing disruptions in Black Sea export flows and concerns over reduced yields due to hot weather in several major producing countries. - Corn — +3.6%
The price increase has been driven by concerns over hot and dry weather in some regions of the U.S. - Vegetable oils — +2%
The vegetable oil price index has reached its highest level since June 2022. - Sugar — +5.6%
Global sugar prices have risen significantly, partly due to potential impacts of hot and dry weather in the European Union. - Meat — -2.8%
The meat price index has decreased by 2.8%. - Poultry — decrease
International poultry prices have generally decreased. - Pork — decrease
Pork prices have also decreased. - Beef — decrease
Global beef prices have fallen. - Lamb — record high
In contrast to other types of meat, lamb prices have risen to a new record level. - Dairy — -0.7%
The dairy price index has decreased by 0.7%. - Cheese — increase
International cheese prices have risen for the first time in a year. - Cereals — +3.4%
The overall price index for cereals has increased.
Thus, in July, significant price increases were recorded for wheat (+5.8%) and sugar (+5.6%) in the international market.
