Google, owned by Alphabet, is acquiring the internal business data of bankrupt Spirit Airlines for $10 million, stating that it plans to use the data for product development and training its artificial intelligence models. This was reported by Reuters.
According to the article, the acquired data includes emails from Spirit Airlines employees, Microsoft Teams messages, spreadsheets, and calendars, as well as marketing, productivity, and operational data.
Reuters reports that before the deal is finalized, the data will be anonymized; it will not contain customer information or personal data that could identify specific individuals.
A U.S. bankruptcy judge will consider the approval of the data sale at a hearing on Wednesday, the agency's materials note.
According to Reuters, Spirit has also received a $7.5 million offer from Mercor, a company operating in the AI data sector.
Spirit is selling its assets as part of the bankruptcy process after ceasing operations in May due to high debt burdens and rising fuel prices.
