Trump-promoted Freedom Fuel expands to Detroit as lawsuit over supplier's unpaid fuel heats up

Freedom Fuel opens a new station in Detroit amid lawsuit

The Freedom Fuel Network, a chain of gas stations promoted by President Donald Trump, has expanded by opening a new location in Detroit. At the Detroit station, the price for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.47, marking the first Freedom Fuel station outside of New Jersey and Pennsylvania:

  • The Detroit location is the first Freedom Fuel station outside of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where the network has 29 locations.
  • Mansfield Oil Company from Gainesville, Georgia, is suing Syed Kazmi and his company KRSM for allegedly failing to pay about $4 million for fuel.
  • Mansfield claims KRSM is not complying with a judge's order to maintain a balance of at least $2.75 million in an M&T Bank checking account.

Freedom Fuel is not a defendant in the lawsuit, but questions arise about how the network can offer such low prices amid rising fuel costs.

Freedom Fuel announced that its new station is opened due to the "massive success of the network" and the "savings communities are seeing at the pump."
