'Armenia's willingness to develop real allied cooperation with Russia raises doubts,' said Alexey Fadeev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry today.
'So far, we see that the Armenian leadership perceives our relations as a one-way street. We certainly expect the Armenian side to demonstrate a more balanced and realistic approach,' the Russian Foreign Ministry representative stated.
'Yerevan is refusing exclusive relations with Moscow, which allegedly hinder the choice of alternative vectors. Instead, numerous declarations about allied cooperation with the West are being presented to the country's population and ordinary citizens,' Fadeev noted.
'Before making such loud announcements, it would be good to familiarize oneself with the legal basis of Armenian-Russian relations, which clearly states who owes whom and how much,' added the official representative of the Russian diplomatic agency.
According to Alexey Fadeev, Moscow is also displeased with the 'demonstrative courtships' between Yerevan and Kyiv.
'If Yerevan wants to ensure that its interests are taken into account, then why shouldn't similar questions arise in Moscow directed at Armenian partners?' concluded the Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In recent months, Russia has gradually imposed restrictions on various goods exported from Armenia. Against the backdrop of economic sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally insisted that Yerevan should hold a referendum to determine whether it is moving towards the Eurasian or European path. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also stated that a popular vote would only occur once Yerevan officially applies for EU membership.
