Estonia Supports Temporary EU Trade Preferences for Armenian Goods

Estonia backs Armenian goods' access to the European market

YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. The government of Estonia has decided to support a European Union regulation project that provides for temporary trade preferences for Armenian goods when they are supplied to the EU market.

According to the project, temporary measures for liberalizing trade with Armenia are planned to be introduced for a period of two years. They are aimed at facilitating access for Armenian goods to the European market and promoting the diversification of the country's export directions.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that Tallinn views the provision of such preferences as one of the tools to support Armenia amid restrictions on the supply of certain Armenian goods to the Russian market.

The European Commission had previously reported that autonomous trade measures regarding Armenia would liberalize about 80% of Armenian exports to the EU.

At the first Armenia-EU summit in May 2026, the parties confirmed their intention to promote the diversification of Armenian exports and expand the supply of new types of products to the European market.

Since May, Russia has imposed restrictions on the import of quarantine products originating from and dispatched from Armenia, as well as their transit through the Russian Federation to EAEU member states. The ban includes, in particular, flowers, mineral water, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, vegetables, fruits, greens, fish and seafood, dairy products.

Against this backdrop, the Armenian authorities have expanded support measures for exporters, including compensating transportation costs and customs duties for the supply of fruits, vegetables, and flowers to the EU, the UK, and Canada, as well as providing subsidies for a number of export goods.

The list of subsidized products also includes certain types of beverages, dried fruits and vegetables, and fish (trout and sturgeon).
