Since May 2026, Russia has imposed restrictions on the export of several products from Armenia, including fruits and vegetables, over 90% of which were previously directed to the Russian market. Among them, apricots, peaches, strawberries, and cherries hold particular significance as the main fruits exported from Armenia.
In 2025, Armenia exported 44,011 tons of apricots, 11,549 tons of peaches including nectarines, 4,396 tons of cherries, and 1,841 tons of strawberries.
In light of the restrictions imposed on the Russian market, the EU is viewed as an alternative market for Armenian fruits. In this context, it is crucial to understand the import volumes in the EU market and the main suppliers to determine the competitive environment in which Armenian fruits may find themselves.
In 2025, EU countries imported 157,000 tons of apricots, 861,000 tons of peaches including nectarines, 104,000 tons of cherries, and 453,000 tons of strawberries. The main supplier of these fruits in the EU market is Spain, which accounted for 49% of EU apricot imports, 68% of peaches (including nectarines), 39% of cherries, and 50% of strawberries.
