In the second quarter of 2026, the number of bankruptcies in the EU increased by 5.7% compared to the previous three months. This is stated in a report from the EU statistical office.
The most significant increase in the number of insolvent companies was recorded in the education and social activities sector at 21.1%, in the transportation sector at 11.4%, and in the financial sector at 6.8%. At the same time, a decrease was noted in the hospitality and food service sector by 2.6%, in construction by 1.7%, and in trade by 1.2%.
During the April-June period, the number of new business registrations in the EU decreased by 0.5%. The most significant decline was recorded in the industrial sector at 3.6%. Meanwhile, the information and communication sector saw the highest growth at 8.8%.
In the Eurozone, the number of bankrupt companies increased by 6.9% in the second quarter of 2026, while the number of new business registrations decreased by 0.1%.
