The Council of the European Union has given final approval to the European Commission's proposal to apply autonomous temporary trade measures to Armenian products. The regulation will take effect after it is signed by the presidents of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU and then published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan thanked EU member states for backing the initiative. In a post on X, he said the decision was a strong sign of solidarity and support and another important milestone in Armenia-EU partnership, in line with the summit declaration and the Strategic Agenda.
Following the Council's approval, the process now moves to its final formal stage. According to the report, the regulation will enter into force the day after its publication.
The source does not provide further details about the content of the trade measures themselves. Still, the response from official Yerevan indicates that the move is being seen as another step toward deeper economic ties between Armenia and the European Union.
