YEREVAN, July 2. /ARKA/. The European Union intends to assist Armenia in diversifying its energy supplies, said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, at a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan.
“In terms of energy carriers, you need a strategic approach. Just as we help Armenia diversify its trade, which enhances resilience and strengthens the country, the EU also wants to help Armenia diversify its energy supplies,” von der Leyen said, responding to a question about possible EU actions in case of rising Russian gas prices for Armenia.
According to her, experts from the EU will arrive in Armenia next week for this purpose. Von der Leyen also noted that the EU is investing in the energy security of the region by creating new energy interconnection routes.
She stated that the EU is allocating 25 million euros to support the development of renewable energy in Armenia. “This increases Armenia's independence and resilience,” she said.
