The European Union plans to increase funding to Morocco to strengthen overall border protection and combat illegal migration. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
"We are already working with the Moroccan authorities to establish a more structured and forward-looking partnership with the EU. We can strengthen border management and the early warning system, as well as increase the technical and financial support provided to Morocco," said a letter from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
From 2021 to 2024, the EU has already allocated 222 million euros to Morocco for migration management, and it is planned to allocate another 190 million euros by the end of 2027. The new funding is expected to be included in the strategic and comprehensive partnership agreement currently being developed between the EU and Morocco, which Brussels aims to sign by the end of 2026.
