US investment firm Clearlake Capital has taken full control of Chelsea Football Club after Todd Boehly and Mark Walter sold their stakes in the club.
As part of the transaction, Boehly is also stepping down as Chelsea chairman, a role he had held since 2022. The deal marks a significant change in the club’s governance structure, with control now fully concentrated in Clearlake Capital’s hands.
At the same time, the club said that Hansjorg Wyss remains an important shareholder and partner within the ownership group. That means his role among the club’s owners is unchanged despite the latest redistribution of stakes.
In a statement, Boehly said it had been an honour to serve as Chelsea chairman. He thanked everyone who had helped secure what he described as a bright future for the club and said he was confident Chelsea was well placed to continue its success under Clearlake’s leadership.
