China sharply increased its purchases of liquefied natural gas over the past week. Bloomberg data show imports rose 142% from the previous week, reaching their highest level since September 2024.
According to the agency’s assessment, the jump may be at least partly linked to the need to replenish inventories. Fuel stocks at China’s LNG import terminals are currently lower than they were a year earlier.
Russia was the largest LNG supplier to China during the period, accounting for about one-third of total import volumes. Australia and Malaysia ranked second and third, respectively.
Bloomberg also noted that mainland China received one LNG cargo from the United States during the reported week.
