Brussels plans to establish a customs preferential regime for Armenia, allowing about 80% of goods exported from Armenia to enter European markets without customs duties.
“This way, we can redirect goods that are primarily exported to the Russian market and send them to the European Union's single market of 450 million people,” said von der Leyen.
This refers to Autonomous Trade Measures (ATM), which Moldova currently uses for trade with European countries.
However, this intention from Brussels will only be realized after final approval, and neither the Armenian Prime Minister nor the President of the European Commission specified when this would happen.
Nikol Pashinyan expressed hope that this could be implemented as soon as possible.
“I am hopeful that through active work with the EU and EU member states, we can complete the decision-making process in a short time,” noted the Prime Minister.
In response to Russian restrictions, Brussels previously announced support of 52 million euros.
“This funding can help create an export promotion agency to boost the export capabilities of Armenian businesses,” added the President of the European Commission.
