Blue Origin raises $10 billion as Bezos’ total investment reaches $32 billion

The company has opened up to outside investors and is reshaping its business for faster growth.

Jeff Bezos is deepening his bet on the space business. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Amazon founder has invested a total of $32 billion in Blue Origin since the company was founded in 2000, using strategic sales of Amazon stock to fund the venture.

Blue Origin, long seen as a private project with outsized ambitions, is now moving into a new phase as a major player in the commercial space industry. The company, valued at $140 billion, has opened itself to outside investors for the first time. It has already raised $10 billion in the current funding round, including $2 billion from Bezos personally, while additional commitments could lift that figure further.

Chief executive Dave Limp is reshaping the company, which employs about 15,000 people, to align it with more ambitious goals. Management is making targeted cuts and halting suborbital tourism flights in order to focus resources on core technology development and the execution of key NASA contracts.

The strategic shift comes with aggressive growth targets. After generating $800 million in revenue in 2025, Blue Origin expects to reach $1.4 billion this year. Internal forecasts point to a major expansion in scale, with annual revenue targeted at more than $30 billion by 2030.
